Interventional Radiology

Interventional Radiology is a procedure used by medical professionals to diagnose and treat various diseases. Interventional Radiologists treat a wide range of issues in the body by inserting small tools like catheters or wires from outside the body. X-ray and imaging techniques such as CT scan and ultrasound techniques assist  radiologists in knowing the cause behind a specific issue. In some cases, it can eliminate the need for major surgeries.

Procedures performed by interventional radiologists include

Angiography: This is an X-ray of the arteries and veins to look for abnormalities such as vascular constriction or blockage.

Angioplasty: A tiny balloon-tipped catheter is inserted into a blood artery by the physician to clear a blockage in the vessel.

Embolization: To block blood flow through a blood vessel, the doctor inserts a chemical through a catheter. Bleeding can be controlled by doing this.

Gastrostomy tubes: If you are unable to eat by mouth, the doctor inserts a feeding tube into your stomach.

Intravascular ultrasound: In order to diagnose issues, the doctor uses ultrasonography to view into a blood vessel.

Stent placement: At the location of the obstruction, the doctor inserts a tiny mesh coil (stent) inside a blood vessel. He or she opens up the blockage by expanding the stent.

Foreign body removal: To remove a foreign object from the blood vessel, the doctor inserts a catheter into the blood vessel.
